SNIPPET
REVISED: August 6, 2008
We believe "all scripture (both the old and new testament) is breathed by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, (and) for instruction in righteousness" - 2 Timothy 3:16. We believe that specific laws within the "old" testament remain in effect today and were not nailed to the cross at the death of Yahushua Messiah. The Apostle Paul told Timothy, the set-apart scriptures were able to make him wise for deliverance through belief in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15). When the Apostle Paul wrote these words to Timothy, the "New Testament" was nonexistent. Paul was referring to the "old" testament law - the Torah. Messiah redeemed us from the curse of the law (death), not the divine law itself. The law is good, just, holy, and spiritual, and opposes sinners (Rom 7:12-14, 1 Timothy 1:8-10). The law defines sin (1 John 3:4).
Messiah was a Jew, not a Greek. We believe scripture needs to be viewed through a Hebraic/Israelitish background, but not an Orthodox Judaic background. We believe Orthodox Judaism is a religion unto itself with it's oral law. And, they do not accept Messiah. Therefore, Orthodox Judaism (as like other types of Judaism) is blind to understanding many sections of old testament scripture that point to Messiah, Salvation for all mankind.
We observe the seventh day Sabbath rather than the first day of the week. Christ/Messiah did not change the Sabbath day to Sunday, nor did the apostles. IRENAEUS, the disciple of Polycarp, the disciple of the Apostle John wrote the following in his document titled; Against Heresies, BOOK 5, chapter XXXIII, verse 2, concerning the reward of the righteous: "These are to take place in times of the kingdom, that is, upon the seventh day, which has been sanctified, in which God rested from all the works which He created, which is the true Sabbath of the righteous, which they shall not be engaged in any earthly occupation; but shall have a table at hand prepared for them by God,..."
We prefer to use the Hebrew names for our savior, and the Father in heaven since the Hebrew Names are definitive of the Ones we worship and obey. For example, the name Jesus is associated with Sunday, Christmas, Easter, and other like holidays. These such days and holidays are not biblically founded as most believe. However, the title Messiah, His name Yahushua (Yah-Saves), and the Name YHWH is associated with the seventh day Sabbath, Passover, and the other mandated festivals and set-apart days. Thus; when we use the Hebrew Names for our Savior and Father in Heaven, we convey a belief which is diametrically opposed to main stream Christian holidays that were founded in idolatry and paganism.
We believe in keeping the dietary laws found in Leviticus 11 and keeping/observing the following days in a year:
(Mandate references can be found in Lev 23 and Deut 16.) These days and times were kept by both old and new testament believers (Colossians 2:16), and picture the plan of YHWH for all mankind.
We believe the Levitical priesthood and the laws encompassing the priesthood: civil, ceremonial, and ecclesiastical laws were either annulled or transformed into the renewed covenant. I write REnewed since we believe that the New Testament covenant is actually the covenant YHWH made with Abraham in Genesis 14-15. (Also reference Galatians 3:12- 29)
