A SPIRITUAL EVALUATION

REVISED July 10, 2006

Most of us evaluate our physical health, our financial condition, and perhaps we have also evaluated our emotional/mental health. Have you ever evaluated your Spiritual health? If so; how often, and are we honest?

The following is a list of evaluative questions that we can ask ourselves to determine our Spiritual condition.

1) Am I content with who I am becoming?

  • Firstly, what is my goal? And; secondly, am I close to reaching my goal?
  • Everyday I get closer to who I will ultimately be. Am I satisfied with who this will be?
  • If I were destined to die tomorrow, am I content with my present Spiritual condition?
  • Is my heart filled with love for others? Am I willing to Sacrifice myself for them?

2) What is my motive in my Spiritual walk?

  • Is my only focus eternal life and the inheritance that YHWH has promised? Or, is my primary focus about having relationships, Godly relationships (Ref: Eph 1:9-10).
  • How much time do I spend thinking about myself verses thinking about what I can do for others.

3) Am I becoming more Spiritual?

  • The pharisees (and the other Jewish sects) were religious, Messiah was Spiritual.
  • Religion is about regulations. Being Spiritual is about love and faith coupled with works.
  • Faith/love separate from works is dead. Also, works without faith/love is dead. (Ref: James 2:8-26)

4) Does my family and others who were/are in my life recognize the authenticity of my Spirituality?

  • If I am growing Spiritually, my family and others will recognize it. How do they view me?
  • Do I have a healthy, uplifting, positive affect upon others? Or, do I frustrate people and/or anger people? Do people like being around me? What are most of my relationships like? Are they long term or short term?
  • When I die; if others can't say I was a Spiritual person - an example to them, then I failed.

5) Do I have inner peace and joy?

  • Romans 14:17, 15:13, Galatians 5:22

6) Have I defined my unique ministry?

  • Do I know what I can do effectively?
  • Everyone who possesses the Holy Spirit is a priest of YHWH. And, each priest is required to offer acceptable Spiritual offerings to Elohim through Messiah (Ref: 1Peter 2:5,9; Is 61:6). What am I offering?

7) How is my prayer life?

  • Am I conversing with Elohim or do I feel like I am sending my words into the air? How many times do I pray everyday? (Ref: 1Thess 5:17-18).

8) How is my bible-study life?

  • Do I study everyday? Do I desire to study the Word of Elohim everyday?

9) Have I maintained a genuine awe of God?

  • Awe inspires worship. Ps 8:3

10) Is my humility genuine?

  • Humility is recognizing I am human like everyone else.
  • Humility is admitting that the power comes through me, not from me.
  • Micah 6:8 "He has declared to you, O man, what is good. And what does YHWH require of you but to do right, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your Elohim?"
  • Prov 22:4 "By humility and the fear of YHWH are riches, and honor, and life."
  • 1Peter 5:5 "...all be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."

11) Is obedience in both small and large matters built into my reflexes?

  • Do I try and bargain or rationalize with God?
  • Do I prefer God's way out of love or do I fear punishment?

12) How do I rate my Spiritual condition now after reading and considering the previous posed questions?

  • If I have more overcoming to do, work out a plan. How do I get there from here? Thinking is the birth of the deed, believing and doing makes it happen.
  • Believe - I am worth Christ's sacrifice.
  • John 15:7 "If you stay in Me, and My Words stay in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you."
  • Believe and succeed.
