When Did Life Begin?

The life of every human (whether adult, child, newborn, fetus, embryo, or blastula) began about 6000 years ago.

Genesis 2:7 says "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." So human life was created right then and there on the sixth day.

But Eve was NOT a new life. God took living tissue from Adam and, while it was still living, He removed the Y-chromosome, slipped in a "duplicate" X-chromosome, turned on certain genes and turned off other genes -- and the result was Eve. It was NOT a new life. It was Adams life that was in the modified tissues that formed Eve. There were two people on earth but life had been created only once. There was no need for the LORD God to breath the breath of life into Eve since she already had life (Adam's life) in her. Actually, she was merely an extension of Adam.

Now when Adam and Eve decided to reproduce themselves, there were no new lives created. Adam's sperm (which still had Adam's life in it) united with Eve's ovum (which still had Adam's life in it) formed a little hollow blob of cells called a blastula. So Cain and Able were NOT two new lives. They were just continuations of the original life that had been created when God breathed into Adam's nostrils. Neither Cain, nor Able nor, Eve constituted a new life. They were not new lives but they WERE new creatures. We can have new genetic configurations without having a new life.

When Adam's sperm united with Eve's ovum (containing Adam's life) the chromosomes all recombined with a totally new configuration. Each little hollow ball of cells had a totally new configuration. It was a totally new genetic arrangement. The genetic code for Cain and the genetic code for Able were unique. Cain's code was different from Adam's and from Eve's code. And Able's code was, likewise, different from his mommy's and daddy's. And furthermore, nobody who ever would be born after that would have the same genetic code. Cain was a new "creature" and Able was a new "creature" but they did not have new lives.

Neither of those two boys involved a NEW life. They were merely extensions of Adam's life. I don't see any indication in the bible that the LORD God breathed the "breath of life" into anybody's nostrils other than Adam.

Adam's life has continued over the last 6000 years and has broadened out into billions of unique creatures but I don't see any indication that there ever was any new life other than Adam's new life. Not even Eve had a new life.

So, in the abortion arguments, the question about when life forms in an embryo or fetus is ridiculous. The life in each and every new baby began on the sixth day of creation week -- about 6000 years ago.

In several places, the bible mentions situations involving animals or people in whom the breath of life already existed. But it doesn't seem to indicate any situations where NEW breath of life in humans was administered.

Every time a man and woman unite so that conception occurs, it is a "new creature" but the same old life that originated in Adam.

Rearranging the chromosomes to create a totally unique DNA configuration does create a new person but it does not involve any new life. Physical conception is the "type" and being "in Christ" is the antitype. (See, for example, II Corinthians 5:17 and Galatians 6:15)

For those who may not know this, it has been scientifically proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that an embryo or fetus is NOT part of the mother's tissues.

It has been shown that the mother's immune system detects the embryo's presence and attacks it as a "foreign tissue." The mother's immune system creates chemical agents that try to kill that little creature inside her body because it is foreign tissue. However, the baby, itself, senses the attack by it's mother's immune system and it secretes an enzyme that counteracts the mother's poisonous attack and, thus, is able to survive in the life-threatening environment in mommy's uterus.

This information was published several years ago in the Los Angeles Times (and reproduced in the Sacramento Bee). I wonder why we don't read about this fact more often? ;-)

In other words, when someone says abortion is OK because nobody has a right to tell a woman what she can or can't do with her own body, they are TRULY mistaken. A fetus is NOT part of the mother's body. It is foreign tissue and, therefore, the mother's body tries to kill it. The immune system "knows" that the baby is foreign tissue.
