The SYMBOLISM of the Lamp Stand

Don't mistake the seven lamp stand of Exodus for the nine lamp menorah of Hanukkah.

Historically, the base of the menorah was 12 foundational divisions of two stacked hexagons.

The lampstands are the seven churches of Revelation. The flames of fire from the candlesticks are the seven eyes on the slain lamb and the seven spirits. (The fire provides 'light'.) We are to become lights unto the world through and by Messiah (Matt 5:14, John 1:5-9).

Exodus 25:31-40, 37:17-24 The LAMPSTAND (KJV: candlestick) design and construction. The main lampstand consisted of three branches on the left, three branches on the right; totaling seven lamps all together. Don't be confused with other nine lamp menorahs that do not fit the Exodus description.

1 Samuel 3:1-3 The lamp stand is identified as the LAMP of YHWH. The lamp stand is not the lamp of the Jews, the lamp of the synagogue, or the lamp or the tabernacle.

Revelation 1:20: The seven lampstands are the seven churches. There are seven lampstands, not just seven lamps on one lampstand. (Interesting thought: 7 lamps x 7 lampstands = 49. There are 49 years before the jubilee year which is the 50th year of release from captivity)

Revelation 1:4, 2:1: Messiah walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands (churches). Messiah and the seven spirits gave a message to the seven churches (lampstands).

Revelation 4:5 reads: "...And seven lamps of FIRE were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of Elohim."

Revelation 5:6 reads: "...a Lamb standing, as having been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of Elohim sent out into all the earth."

The Seven Spirits.

Isaiah 11:2 reads: "The Spirit of YHWH*[love] shall rest upon Him [Messiah] - the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of YHWH."

*2 Timothy 1:7, 1 John 4:12, 1 John 4:8

  1. LOVE: (Gal 5:22) Strong's #26 = Affection, dear, or benevolence. YHWH spirit of love stirs-up heart felt feelings toward Him and others, and the desire to perform charitable acts. In Revelation 2:1-6, Messiah's tells the Ephesus church they lost their first love. This love was the Spirit of love. Even though the Ephesus church performed works or labor for YHWH's name sake, did not become weary, had endurance, did not bear evil ones, tried those which said they were apostles and were not, and hated the works of the Nikolaites as did Messiah, Messiah was ready to remove their lampstand if they did not repent! He expected them to repent of not having or giving heart felt love! Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 if he did not have charity (love), he had nothing! (Note: the Jews traditionally believe the center shaft candlestick represents the Spirit of love.) All of YHWH's commands are centered around love.
  2. WISDOM: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #2451 means: wisdom (in a good sense):-skillful, wisdom, wisely, wit. The Random House Dictionary definition reads, "knowledge of what is true or right, coupled with good judgment."
  3. UNDERSTANDING: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #998 means: knowledge, meaning x perfectly. From #995 meaning to separate mentally, distinguish, or discern. The Tormont Webster's Dictionary defines understanding as: 1) The quality or condition of one who understands; comprehension. 2) The faculty by which one understands; intelligence.
  4. COUNSEL: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #6098 means: advice, by implication, plan. Also prudence. We should be educated in the Word of YHWH so that we may give sound, good advice to others from YHWH's Word.
  5. MIGHT: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #1369 means: force (lit or fig) valor, victory, force (act, power) mastery, strength.
  6. KNOWLEDGE: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #1847 means: knowledge:-cunning, [ig-]norantly, know(-ledge), (un-) awares (wittingly). From #3045 meaning observation, care, recognition. [We should strive to have keen insight of the word of YHWH. We need to be sharp and astute, and not be lethargic (sluggish - lack of arousal) for the word of YHWH. Be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks (1 Peter 3:15).] The Tormont Webster's Dictionary defines knowledge as: The state or fact of knowing.
  7. FEAR: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #3374 meaning: reverence, make afraid. Most everyone has seen the bumper sticker that reads, "No Fear". This is the wrong attitude to have. We need to have fear and reverence for YHWH, and reverence for His creation. Philipians 2:12 reads, "So that, my beloved, as you always obeyed - not only in my presence, but now much rather in my absence - work out your own deliverance with fear and trembling." People need to have fear of the higher power.

Don't confuse the above seven Spirits with the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. Fruits of the Spirit are produced from these seven Spirits plus the Spirit of Truth. John 14:17 reveals the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth that dwells within the saints. This is the One Spirit that all the Spirits are manifested from. (Reference 1 Corinthians 12:4-12).
